Google Shopping

In May 2012, Google announced to cease Google Product Search and change to Google Shopping, a commercial model. The so far free upload of product data on Google Merchant Center has been enriched with additional data fields and specifications.

Out of all “development corners” Google now integrates the necessary modules for an overall concept of a marketplace with product presentation, product search, shop rating, payment services and API-Interface to dock on to its own solutions. The switch is scheduled to be completed by the end of the second quarter 2013.

Will Google be in competition with Amazon and Ebay? Will Google Shopping be a new successful product? How do retailers in the USA and Germany prepare for the launch?

Here is an example of the structure of the product data on Google Shopping:

So far Google stands for Search and Advertisement. Now it steps out of those shadows into the world of marketplaces with complete solutions. We call the support of the sale with web-shops Shopmarketing. Other providers are well ahead of Google when it comes to Shopmarketing. Will Google be able to catch up on that? But for retailers the most important question is: “Shall we integrate Google Shopping as success promising Shopmarketing into our strategy?”.

In a rough inventory we will analyze the established modules and new initiatives. Thereby we will give a recommendation for web business with Google Shopping.
